The Japanese counter attack on Iwo Jima was fated to fail from the start. Their expected artillery bombardment never occurred and that seemed to confuse the Japanese troops and commanders. Their lone tank was slow to arrive as well as many of their troops. When the troops did arrive they were slow to take the initiative. They did destroy two american squads and capture the first bunker. The tank once it arrived was devastating, as the Americans had no anti tank equipment. But the Jansen commanders charge into the second bunker failed and with no commander there we no time left for their troops to take the last two bunkers.

The Allies were intent on capturing Paris, but after Blücher’s unsuccessful attack in February, choose to retire as Napoleon rushed to the aid of his two Marshals covering the city. Falling back to Laon, a natural defensive position and an important road junction, Blücher deployed his 90,000 man army and waited.
Napoleon ordered Ney and Mortier to attack the towns of Ardon and Semilly on March 9th. Blücher choose to hold back his reserves, when he saw the relatively small number of French troops marching to the attack, believing that Napoleon must be trying to turn his flank. Napoleon, however, had actually committed almost his entire force in the series of frontal assaults.
The fighting on this front this day would end in a French Victory. On the French right, Marmont destroyed the advancing Prussian Grenadiers and killed General Von Horn. The French Cavaly was then able to route the Prussian artillery securing the French right flank. In the Center the French Cavalry was not as successful but the guard artillery in a coordinated bombardment was able to break the allied army.
